FEATURED CHALLENGE

As a centerpiece of the tenant lounge, a wall was to be custom-built for 1,500 light bulbs to protrude at four staggered depths. It was labor-intensive plan that would cost a small fortune for a specialty carpenter to complete.

NYEG APPROACH

After reviewing the drawings with the architect, we floated the idea of installing 25% of the lights—the deepest, “Level 4”s—directly onto the lounge’s existing wall.

With one full level accounted for, it took just a couple of hours to cut hundreds of small wood blocks to varying thickness for the remaining three levels of depth.

Next, multiple workers installed sockets into individual blocks and secured them in place on the marked-up basewall.

All told, our approach drastically improved the safety, stability, timing and cost of the lightwall, while delivering the full impact of this architectural masterpiece.
